TEHRAN, Iran, Jan. 31 (UPI)—Thousands of students, in a protest parade reportedly organized by the party of former Premier Mohammed Mossadegh, today demanded the resignation of Premier Sharif Emami in a demonstration against alleged “rigging” of forthcoming national elections. [Jafar Sharif-Emami]

It was the first time Mossadegh’s name had cropped up in political action since he fell from power seven years ago after a bitter controversy over nationalization of British oil interests.

Shouting “give us freedom or death,” the students demanded release of 20 of their number allegedly arrested by security police earlier the week during another anti-government demonstration.

The parade was reported organized by Mossadegh’s National Front, which is contesting some seats in the election Feb. 2-5.

The students had threatened to march on the Interior Ministry to demand the release of the imprisoned students. But police refused to let them leave the university grounds where the students still shouted at nightfall, refusing police requests that they go home,

Pro-government groups—including members of the Rightists, Nationalists, Independents, People’s and Nationalist Parties—demonstrated today in other parts of the city.

About a dozen National Front opposition leaders, including some university professors, moved into the Senate building in protest against police occupation of their Party’s club and headquarters.
