Rory Bremner on Iran: "We Started It All"

Comedian Rory Bremner

Time and again, as the mainstream media fails to provide the whole story, it is the comedians who end up producing the real journalism. In America, Jon Stewart's The Daily Show and Stephen Colbert regularly ask more pertinent, probing questions than any reputable U.S. news source.

While the Tony Blair government continues to lock horns with Iran, the history of Britain's crimes  against Iran go largely unmentioned. Enter British comedian, impressionist and political satirist Rory Bremner, who offers this light hearted summary of the 1953 British coup that overthrew the democratically elected Prime Minister Mossadegh.

Bremner notes that to help enable the coup, the BBC broadcast government propaganda. "Oh yeah, how times have changed", he comments wryly. Watch the video online:

The video below, excerpted from the hit BBC series "Bremner, Bird and Fortune", is Rory Bremner's impression of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (ranting about the coup and Iran's nuclear rights) and British PM Tony Blair. For Ahmadinejad's actual statements about the 1953 coup, click here.
