Marjane Satrapi's PERSEPOLIS the Movie
'Persepolis' Film Earns International Acclaim
Persepolis,
the popular autobiographical graphic novel series by artist/author Marjane
Satrapi, has been made into a feature length
animated film, co-written and co-directed by Satrapi herself. A
production of France (Satrapi's longtime residence), the movie's
dialogue is in French with English subtitles, and features the voice of French actress Catherine Deneuve.
Persepolis was awarded the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, and has been formally criticized by the Islamic Republic government. Sony Pictures Classics gave the film a theatrical release in America which included TV advertisements. Veteran film critic Leonard Maltin has described Persepolis as "one of the most remarkable animated feature-films ever made."
